Case Study 4: Inglewood Unified School District, California: Creating a District-Wide Culture of Data Inquiry
- Presenters:
Dr. Pamela Short-Powell, Superintendent
Ms. Vicki Rice, Consultant
Dr. Reginald Sirls, Director of Secondary Education - The
case study will demonstrate to educators at schools sites and at the
district office how data inquiry has improved educational planning and
student performance in the Inglewood Unified School District. For
years, there had been a lack of professional development and
collaboration on effective data analysis. The development of data
teams, training into data inquiry, and the use of an effective data
management system have been a catalyst for positive change. The
incorporation of professional learning communities has only been
operative because of the focus on and availability of student and
teacher data. Although there have been some bumps in the road along the
way, such as naysayers and the lack of data analysis and technology
training, the process has moved forward due to continuous professional
development of key players.
This presentation will allow for whole group discussion and Q & A with the presenters. - Participants will learn how to develop effective data inquiry teams; participants will learn how to use a data management system to effectively analyze student data; participants will learn how to analyze data from formative and summative assessments to improve student achievement.
