Mike Hickey is
Distinguished Professor and the Director of the Center for Leadership
in Education in the College of Education at Towson University in
Baltimore, MD. He is also former Superintendent of the Howard County
Public School System in Maryland, and former Superintendent of St.
Louis Park Schools in Minnesota.
Dr. Hickey received his B.A. in English from the University of Washington in 1964, and his Ph.D. in Educational Administration in 1969 from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Hickey teaches "Theory and Practice of Curriculum Development," "Administration of the Schools," and "Seminar in Supervision and Professional Development" at Towson University.
He received the Outstanding Career Educator award from the Howard County Chamber of Commerce in 2000, the Outstanding Educator Award from the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals in 1998, the Outstanding Individual in Government award from the Howard County Equal Business Opportunity Board in 1996, and the Tree of Life Award for Distinguished Service to Education from the Jewish National Fund in 1993. Dr. Hickey was named Maryland Superintendent of the Year in 1992, and was named one of the Top 100 School Administrators in North America 1987, 1984, 1983, and 1980.
