Maureen is currently in her second year as principal of Spring Ridge Middle School in St. Mary's
County, Maryland, where she had previously served as an elementary principal and teacher at the
elementary, middle, and high school levels. Maureen is an instructional leader in the fullest sense
of the term. She was one of the first principals in the country to implement the Classroom-Focused
Improvement Process (CFIP) and dramatically improved student performance and closed
performance gaps in the elementary school she led for five years.
As a reward for her outstanding performance, she was assigned to lead a struggling middle school that had failed to make AYP in the previous four years, with a faculty that was demoralized and data-averse. In the first year the school made AYP in four of the five areas it had previously failed and it is currently the highest-performing middle school in the district on quarterly benchmark tests.
