Participants will learn how to translate a school improvement plan into a year-long, data-driven school improvement process

The role of logic models to guide school improvement planning and better identify what type of data you should be monitoring
Using regularly-scheduled improvement meetings to monitor implementation of improvement plans and drive data-driven decision-making
Challenges to facilitating data-driven meetings and strategies for effectively dealing with them

Workshop outcomes

Participants will leave this session with a structure for a year-long school or district improvement process that starts with a carefully crafted School Improvement Plan, includes ongoing collection of implementation and outcome data, and features monthly meetings to drive continuous improvement.

School leaders, academic coaches, central office administrators that support principals or oversee School Improvement programs

Workshop Process

The workshop will involve a combination of lecture, discussion, and hands-on activities for participants to explore how they will begin to build an active school improvement process in their schools

Agenda

Day 1, participants will:

Review the elements of an effective school improvement plan
Brainstorm diverse forms of data needed to discover instructionally-based root causes
Learn about evidence-based improvement strategies to address root causes

Day 2, participants will:

Use a case study from Duval County, Florida, to learn a process for collecting and analyzing implementation data
Identify the components of a year-long process for monitoring outcome data and identifying "mid-course corrections" needed to achieve targets
Prepare for the challenges that arise when facilitating meetings using performance data
*Culminating Activity: Create a year-long plan for implementing and monitoring an improvement strategy in your SIP
