D. Alex Bergren

D. Alex Bergren currently serves as the principal of Princess Anne Middle School in Virginia Beach. Over the course of his career in education, he has taught 9th, 10th, and 11th grade English, coached boys’ and girls’ soccer and forensics, and served as a school improvement specialist and middle and high school assistant principal. Bergren received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Virginia Tech, a Masters of Arts in Literature from Saint Louis University, and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from The George Washington University (GWU). He is currently working to complete his dissertation in order to earn an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from GWU. As principal at Princess Anne Middle, he has focused on developing and implementing both 21st century instruction and a balanced assessment system, both areas where he has developed the expertise to successfully lead Princess Anne Middle to fulfill its promise as a Vanguard school for balanced assessment. Bergren is also a devoted husband, a proud father of three girls, and an avid Hokie.
