James M. Pohl

Mr. Pohl is currently the principal of Princess Anne High School (PAHS). Prior to coming to PAHS, he was the principal at Princess Anne Middle School for three years. He was named the Virginia Beach Association of Secondary School Principal’s Middle School Principal of the Year in 2009. He got his start in administration as an assistant principal at Pasquotank County High School in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, before coming to Virginia Beach City Public Schools as an assistant principal at Cox High School. He is a product of Virginia Beach City Public Schools and a graduate of Cox High School. Before becoming an administrator, Mr. Pohl taught math at Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, where he was named teacher of the year in 1999. Mr. Pohl completed his Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Master of Science in Secondary Education, and he is currently writing his dissertation with the expectation of earning his Ph.D. from Old Dominion University in December of 2011. He and his wife Darcy, who is a teacher with VBCPS, have two children that are both students in Virginia Beach Public Schools.
